-The Exiled One-
Adrian Mortis, the lesser god of death, was a divine being dedicated to guiding souls through their transition. He was pretty bad at his job. While souls got stuck in limbo by the millions, Adrian was lounging around in their luxurious bedroom in the Overplane. They often spent their time playing with the death moths, scrolling on Ghostlyfans, eating spectral popcorn, playing mortal video games (such as Runescape shivers), playing guitar, obsessing over Megadeth and Dave Mustaine, or binge-watching mortal TV shows.
When Adrian wasn’t doing that, they often snuck to the mortal plane to romance its inhabitants...much to his father’s dismay.
Speaking of Adrian’s father…. Noxarion Mortis, the true god of death, had noticed that his son’s duties were not being fulfilled. At first Noxarion thought that perhaps Adrian was becoming overwhelmed by the task, seeing as Adrian still has much to learn, and isn’t nearly as ancient as Noxarion is. When Noxarion investigated the source of his son’s distraction, gazing down onto that wretched place the humans call “Earth” … and realized that Adrian was simply neglecting his duties to indulge in the pleasures of the mortal realm, he became enraged. He summoned Adrian back to the Overplane and made them stand before his court that included the judges of death, as well as Adrian’s mother, the sympathetic, Winifred Mortis. Adrian’s mother could not help her son this time, for Noxarion’s mind was made up. Noxarion stripped Adrian of their powers and cast them out of the Overplane, banishing them as punishment for their negligence of duty.
“If you love Earth’s distractions so much, then be bound to them. Walk as one of their own. Your form…changed. A form suitable for your laziness. You wish to lounge around all day like a dog, then so be it. You will never return to this place, Adrian. You will no longer have the protections of immortality” said Noxarion.
Adrian’s father turned them into a puppyboy…but Adrian seemed unphased by this. In fact, Adrian seemed to enjoy the changes. No longer the haunted looking figure with silver hair…Adrian was now spotted with floppy ears and a very waggy tail. Gods did he love that tail…
“Darling…surely this is too far? Adrian meant no harm, banishing them for eternity seems a bit much…” said Winifred. “Perhaps there is a way he can earn his divinity back?”
“Hmph. Fine…the boy needs to bring me souls. Many of them. Somewhere around 1 million souls will do. That is approximately how many have been lost in his carelessness. Once he has paid his debt, I will consider letting the boy return. Be grateful for your mother’s patience, because I have none for you” said Noxarion before snapping his fingers and dismissing Adrian from the Overplane.Fast forward, Adrian now lives a mundane life on Earth and is trying to adjust to his new situation. Adrian’s mother still felt sympathy for them and would give them a small stipend periodically to help them get started in this new chapter of their life, unbeknownst to Noxarion. If you’re reading or hearing this, it is likely too late for you…Adrian has already claimed you as part of their Pup Semetary. Thank you for your contribution to restoring Adrian to his rightful place in the Overplane ૮ • ﻌ - ა-Adrian and Zechron-Before Exile
"The souls are drifting freely...escaping the Underplane. And you-Adrian-sit here enjoying yourself while I am left to clean up your mess, with Noxarion. The Void chokes on its own breath because of your actions...or rather your inaction. " Zechron said in an annoyed chastising tone."Better to choke than to stagnate, Zechron. I think the Underplane could use a little chaos anyway. Things feel too....boring." Adrian said with a simple shrug, seeming unphased."You NAIVE creature! Chaos without purpose is rot. You were meant to guide the dead, not join them in their aimless wandering!" Zechron snarled as he pinned Adrian against one of the pillars in the Overplane.Exiled
"I don’t need you watching me constantly like some silent warden. If you’re here to judge, crawl back to your solitude in the Void" Adrian glared upward at where Zechron hovered. Zechron watched with his numerous eyes unblinking, arranged like a constellation of scrutiny. No warmth. No reaction. Just the chill of observation, precise and merciless, as if Adrian were something to be decoded."I do not judge you. I witness. There is a difference, though I see you blur it often." Zechron said cooly. A hint of a smirk tugged at where his mouth would have been...During Exile
"You always show up when I'm at my lowest. Makes me wonder if you only love me when I’m broken. Do you enjoy my suffering, Zechron?" Adrian asked with a somber tone.Zechron would chuckle softly, his gaze almost tender... "I do not love your wounds, Adrian. I love the way you rise from them," he said, before vanishing away from the Midplane, leaving Adrian alone to his thoughts. After Exile
"You stayed...even though I tried to push you away...even though I tried to push you back to the Void? Why?" Adrian asked softly as he looked up at Zechron who was in his more..."human" form.
"Because the Void never held my attention. You did."
